Charity Games Benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

Those pictured here are both having fun and contributing to a worthy cause at a taco supper/charity game hosted by MaryAnn and Jim Boardman at their Build Better Bridge club on Wednesday the 5th of October. They raised over $350 to support the work of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, a national organization that raises funds to support medical research for the fight against a somewhat rare form of cancer.   Multiple Myeloma is a blood based cancer that attacks one’s bones and until recently almost always led to death.  Also in the first week of October were two Iowa City charity games held by Bob Otto, each of which raised $100.  All three games coincided with a Run/Walk event in Iowa City organized by the EIMM (the Eastern Iowa Multiple Myeloma organization}. This year the Run/Walk drew over 500 persons, most from the Unit 163 area. In its fifth year, the Run/Walk raised over $28,000 And, of course, once the bridge began at all three games, most had fun and some did well, very well, given the extra Master Point awards offered by charity games.  Phillip Cummins, who helped organize these games, urges other clubs in Unit 163 to consider holding one of these events next year.  Unit officers can help club owners meet ACBL guidelines.
