Paulette Koontz

Paulette (Kremer) Koontz, 69 years old, of Jesup, IA, and formerly of Manchester, IA, died Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA. She was born March 13, 1947, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Paul B. Kremer and Marcella C. (Frost) Kremer. She graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, IA with the class of 1965. She then attended Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids before graduating from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

She was united in marriage to Jan Koontz at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raymond, IA. They divorced in 1979. Paulette taught school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Manchester, IA for 40 years. She was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.

She enjoyed playing bridge and was known for being one of Iowa’s outstanding bridge players. She recently became a resident of Ravenwood Specialty Care in Waterloo, because of her cancer diagnosis and treatments. She will be remembered by the bridge world, for her many years of service to Catholic schools, and as a loving daughter, sister and aunt.

Paulette is survived by her parents, Paul and Marcella Kremer of Jesup, IA; two sisters, Sally (Alfred) Meixner of Panora, IA, Phyllis (Ken) Filreis of Bloomington, MN; and one niece, Amanda.

MaryAnn Boardman of the Build Better Bridge Club in Cedar Rapids held a party in December, 2016 to honor Paulette when she achieved ACBL Emerald Life Master status (7500 master points.) Paulette is pictured below at that party.
