The Hills Tournament is Over!

novicecornerThe Hills tournament is over and from my standpoint a success: no burnt fingers, no wounded ego from losing games and no flat tire. This was my first attempt at chairing an event and it truly was not a “trial by fire” as I thought it might be. There were so many that contributed with food, money, know-how and just plain physical presence. I want to give our president special kudos for sending me a 26 page
Resource Guide for planning a sectional tournament. Yes, I read every page and the only information that applied was to have aspirin on hand. And yes, someone asked for it!

Shopping for the groceries on Wednesday proved to me that the world lives on munchies, candy and pop. I think there were 32 varieties of energy bars which gave me pause to think. What are people doing with all that energy? I cooked the chili on Thursday and the old family recipe became history when I poured in a 6 pound can of beans and 3 quarts of tomato juice. Then Friday night I got home at 11 pm and browned hotdogs (I hate those anemic boiled things) and made sandwiches. But it was fun. Truly.

Saturday night some of the local life masters invited me to join them in a resurrection of hands at the Outback.

What I was left with at the end of the weekend (besides a trashy car) was that bridge players form a community of unique individuals. People who never see one another at any other time, come together to enjoy the game and each other. May the force live on.
