Third Annual Awards Games and Banquet – March 3, 2018

circle4suitsYou don’t want to miss this special occasion! We are proud to announce a unique celebration for all Unit 163 members, with special accolades to those who have won ACBL races in 2017. There will be many other awards and recognitions as well.

The Awards Games and Banquet will be held at Glovik Hall, 1224 5th St. SE, Cedar Rapids. We will have two special Unit Charity Games with a bonus catered meal between the sessions. These stratified open games are rated at over 80% sectional tournament (black points). Then, between the sessions, we will have an awards ceremony with a complete catered meal. Games are at 1:00 and 6:00 with awards presented at the meal between sessions. Cost is $20 for both games and the meal.

We will honor the top 10 members of our unit finishing at each level of the Ace of Clubs and Mini-McKenney races, as well as new Life Masters and Golden Age Masters. The Ace of Clubs is a certificate given to the players in each Unit, one per ranking level, who earn the most master points in club games during the calendar year. The Mini-McKenney medallions are given to the players in each Unit, one per ranking level, who earn the most total master points during the previous year. All “pigmented” points are counted. These are not just awards for the big name players; there are thirteen categories in each race, starting with 0-5 points.

The Golden Age Master awards are given to loyal ACBL members who play regularly locally but do not travel to many tournaments to earn the multi-colored points required to become a life master. They are given to individuals who are 70+ years and have over 300 master points, 80+ years and have over 100 master points and 90+ years with loyal contribution and master points.

Did you catch the word ‘charity’ in the name of the games? As an added benefit, some of the entry fees will go to charity. This is a not-to-be-missed event! Please RSVP to MaryAnn Boardman at 319-540-4206 or so that we know how many dinners to order. You don’t want to miss this celebration!
