2018 Awards Banquet

The third annual awards banquet was held on March 3 at Glovik Hall in Cedar Rapids. This event is a gift to unit members from the Unit 163 Reps. About 60 people attended. Two enhanced point games were held and a meal was catered between sessions to accompany the awards presentation. There was a lot to celebrate from 2017. We announced that the unit, as a whole, including individual club efforts and a grant from ACBL donated about $8,000 to charity last year. Our unit charity is Multiple Myeloma and they were the recipient of the grant money and another club fund raiser.

We had even more awards than usual. We gave out Golden Age Awards, announced the winners of our sectional tournaments, recognized Life Masters, recognized the winners in thirteen different categories of Ace of Clubs and Mini McKenney Awards. Gary Edwards also received a Goodwill district award. It was great fun to honor and applaud those winners.

This was also a charity event and we stressed that more this year. Part of the entry fee for the second game went to our unit charity, Multiple Myeloma. There was a donation box that collected $220 from our generous players. Bill Kent not only did a great job directing, but donated his fees for the charity. We earned $470 for the charity at this event.

Thanks to everyone who attended and the Unit 163 Board Reps who worked hard to make this a great party. It was a gala, fun-filled event. We look forward to doing it again next year.
