Once again Unit 163 is excited to announce a special event: an awards banquet and games. Each year medallions and certificates are given by ACBL for unit winners in The Ace of Clubs competition and The Mini McKenney competition. The unit awards were previously handed out at some tournaments, sometimes announced and sometimes not announced. No big deal. Well, the Unit 163 Board Members want to change that to make it a celebration!
On Saturday, March 2, there will be two unit charity bridge games (rated 80% sectional points) with an
awards ceremony and catered dinner between games. The first game will start at 1:00 and the second at 6:00, Single session entries are possible . If we have enough participants we will have two sections for each game, Life Masters and Future Life Masters.
This year has had a wealth of new life masters, 10!, so we have a lot to celebrate along with the Ace of Clubs and the Mini McKenney awards. Other recognitions will also be celebrated.
The Ace of Clubs and Mini McKenney races can be seen on the unit website, but the final results will not be released until February. These are not just awards for the big name players. There are thirteen categories in each race starting with 0-5 points. All of the Unit 163 members are invited to Glovik Hall in Cedar Rapids to applaud and celebrate achievers of all levels. The flyer is available at the unit web site or from board members at your local clubs. The cost for the whole event (two games and a meal!) is a very reasonable $20. We want to throw a party for our unit 163 members!
